Environment Process Book
Medieval Torture Room - Based from my view of the torture scene from The Night Angel series.
Project Description:
This project is to practice my scene building and modeling skills. The scene is going to be imported into the Unity game engine. The scene will have some assets that will be very detailed and will be covered in both dry and fresh blood. Some of the assets in the scene will have basic animations. Some of the assets that will be in this scene will be somewhat difficult to make due to some of the small detailed parts that make them up, but I think that I will be able to become a much better digital designer after.
Adding to the Requirements:
After I am able to meet the assignment's basic requirements I hope to not only add clickable and location based triggers for animation, I also hope to be able to add some sound effects to go with some of the animated assets. I will try to look through the college's open library of sound effects to get the right sounds that I could use. If I'm not able to find all the sounds that I want I will try to search the internet for them. I will of course to sure to be clear that I do not own any of the sounds that I will be using unless there is a sound that I will be able to record myself. Within Unity I will be able to use the basic audio sources and the audio listener to hopefully be able to complete this extra task.
Personal Skills:
For this project I want it to be built as my personal vision of what I feel the torture room of The Night Angel series looks like. I don't plan to have any character models within the scene other than some possible dead bodies that might be displayed around the room. I want this scene to look dark and almost painful to look at. I don't mean that I want it to look bad in quality or anything similar to that. What I mean by painful is that I want those that view this scene to have some fear of what could or has taken place in this scene. I want some of the torture tools around the room to be coated in blood and gore. I would like to try to even have some parts of the walls to have blood on them. I understand that this scene is going to take a large amount of texturing which is something that I don't have a ton of experience with, but during this semester I will try my best to improve. During the story of The Night Angel trilogy there is a time where the main character Kylar Stern is captured and in order to try to get information out of him he is brutally tortured and due to some of his abilities he is able to regenerate which allows his torturers to be able to go all out. The scenes in the story jump around between different days and nights where he is brutally tortured in many ways and pretty much at the end of each session he ends up passing out from pure pain and shock.
The Night Angel Trilogy is a series written by Brent Weeks that follows the rough life of a boy a later adult originally named Azoth. Later on in the story he has his name changed to Kylar Stern, but for my scene that really isn't too important. The story follows Azoth's life of starting out as a basic guild rat to his training to be a wetboy which is an assassin with magical powers and to when he is a full wetboy and a savior of sorts that takes on the corrupt kingdom and an unseen threat of unexplainable proportions. Throughout the story Azoth goes through extremely rough times to say the least and the long time that he goes through the huge amount of torture is definitely up there for me as one of the most extreme that I can comfortable try to recreate as a scene. Because to be very honest this story is not for young readers at all and can be extremely brutal and specific about rough times that Azoth and other characters in the story experience.

Color Palette:
For my scene I ended up looking at games and movies that had to do with dungeons, gore, torture, and plenty of blood. For a game that I felt fit what I was looking for in colors I found Diablo to be a good fit. For a movie that that I felt fit what I needed for colors perfectly I had to turn to the horribly gory series that is Hellraiser.

Primary Color Palette:
My Primary Color Palette will contain three colors mainly. The first will be a greenish brown that will be the colors of the stones that will make up the floors and walls and the dirt that will be around the scene. The second color will be a dark red that will represent the color of dried blood that will cover parts of the tools of torture that will be in the room. The dried blood will also be on some areas of the walls and the floor in the scene. Lastly the third color of the primary colors will be a light blackish blue that will represent the color or the metal parts in the scene and the same color will lightly cover the entire scene to give it its dimly lit and almost hopeless look.
Secondary Color Palette:
For my secondary colors my first will be a light shade of red than the one that I have in my primary colors. This lighter red will also represent blood, but it will be fresher blood and will show up in less places in the scene. The second color is a dark purple that will be affected by the dim lighting in the scene. This color will be used for possible leftover flesh that might be in different places in the scene like a torn up head or an arm that has been ripped off. Lastly the dark brown will represent the wood in the scene. The wood will make up some of the tools of torture that will be in the scene. Metal will be a large part of what will make up the torture tools, but for tools like a wooden table or a wooden rack they will be made with wood.
